Make up Days for School and

Parent Teacher Conferences

Parent-Teacher Conferences for Feb 3
will be held on Tuesday, February 9

at the same times you were scheduled for on Feb. 3.

Tuesday, February 9th will be a 2:15 dismissal day.

We have missed 3 days of school due to weather.  Two days are built in snow days.  So we will need to make up one day (so far).

The snow make up day will be made up on Thursday, March 24, 2016.  This will be a 2:15 dismissal day.  (Wednesday, March 23 will now be a regular dismissal day – NOT a 2:15 dismissal).

The scheduled days off of Friday, March 25 and Monday, March 28 will remain “No School” days for spring break.

Iowa Assessment results went home with 7th-11th grade students on Monday, January 25th.  3rd-6th grade results will be given to parents at conferences the first week of February.  Remember that this is a snapshot of your child's performance.  Look for discrepancies between high test results and low classroom performance, or vice versa.  Also, this does not show your child's talents in art, music, hands on courses, and other areas of interest.  If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Lawless Anderson in the guidance office.

STEM at Turkey Valley Preschool

During the month of December, Turkey Valley Preschoolers learned about simple machines.  Children learned about inclined planes, wedges, screws, wheels and axels, levers, and pulleys.  A variety of materials were used for children to learn and investigate these simple machines.

Some materials were provided as part of Pint-Size Science, a Scale-Up Grant Mrs. Tlusty was awarded from the Govenor's STEM Council.  After using the kits last year, Mrs. Tlusty wanted more hands-on materials for the children to experience and explore how simple machines work.  With the help of the Turkey Valley Education Foundation (TVEF), she was able to.  TVEF provided funds for Mrs. Tlusty to purchase a Sid the Science Kids video about simple machines, simple machine models, and a LEGO Simple Machines set.

The children enjoyed learning about the simple machines.  The new materials have continued to spark discussion and foster exploration through the month of January as well.
